Effects of Low Blood Sugar in child - Normal Blood Sugar level in Children

5. Eating lots of sugar makes kids inattentive and overactive?

False. The number of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder does seem to have soared in recent years. And the simultaneous rise in kids' sugar consumption seems to support the common, persistent belief that sugar makes kids "bounce off the walls." But the apparent epidemic of over activity almost surely stems solely from increased diagnosis, caused by heightened awareness of the problem and relaxed diagnostic criteria.

Research has consistently absolved sugar from contributing to hyperactivity. More than 20 clinical trials have now looked for such a connection by giving kids meals prepared either with lots of sugar or with artificial sweeteners. Not one found evidence of hyperactivity-in behavior or mental sharpness-after the high-sugar meals. In the trials that included parents' evaluations of their kids, even they couldn't tell the difference.
